Owned and operated by Nicole Druken, who originates from Newfoundland, Play Photography features wedding & engagement shoots, graduation photos, family portraits, newborns and much more.
Splitting her time between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, Nicole loves how each environment refereshes her portfolio. She loves the lush orchards, farmer’s fields and Bay of Fundy red sands in the Annapolis Valley; but she also loves the Newfoundland landscape of craggy cliffs, rocky shores and mossy flatlands.
We got the chance to ask Nicole what inspires her, motivates her and what she enjoys in her spare time.
What is your favourite person/place/thing to photograph?
I am definitely a people photographer, inspired by nature. As much as I love a breath-taking natural backdrop, it’s never complete for me without a personality or two shining from it.
I adore weddings. It’s like doing all the little types of sessions that I enjoy rolled into one. There’s the intimate boudoir-like getting ready portion, the love-filled family portraits, the fun and lively bridal party shots, the romantic and sweet couples photos and the photojournalistic event coverage for the ceremony and reception time. And the kids. Most weddings come with adorable kids to chase around.
What is your hobbies/past time?
I am a constant traveller, an avid yoga and meditation teacher and student, a lover of all things family and I appreciate spending time in my garden and kitchen!
Do you have availability for 2017 weddings?
I do still have a handful of dates up for grabs for next year. I have booked weddings two years in advance and 3 mos in advance…it’s so fun to see all the different bride personalities that come my way. I have loved every couple I’ve ever worked with, as wildly different as they are. That makes me feel like the luckiest person in the world.

Moon and stargazing is back at Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa and it is open to both guests and members of the community.
On July 9 and August 10 the Moon will be in two different phases and we want to share our beautiful universre with our guests and friends.
We will have a telescope along with amatuer astrologers Melody and Bruce Hamilton. They will be joined by the Royal Astronomical Centre of Canada Halifax Chapter.
On July 9th, the moon will be a waxing crescent moon (pictured above) to view. The position of the sunrise terminator will help us observe seas and craters on the moon’s surface. Also in the sky will be Jupiter, Mars and Saturn!
The moon on August 10th will be a first quarter moon. The sunrise terminator has advanced further across the face of the moon revealing other magnificent features of the moon. Again Mars and Saturn will be in a good position as well.
